Punk Rock/Alternative Rock

ABOUT :
Long Island-based Bayside formed in the winter of 2000 and quickly started developing a local following with their melodic brand of moody, guitar-driven emo. They soon hit the road, sharing stages across the United States with bands like the Alkaline Trio, Taking Back Sunday, and Further Seems Forever along the way. Their first release, the EP Long Stories Short, came out on local indie Dying Wish Records in August 2001. Touring continued and the following year Bayside found itself with a slot on Asbury, NJ's Skate and Surf Fest, Birmingham's Furnace Fest, and dates on two weeks of Warped Tour. As with many young bands, various lineup changes occurred throughout the years, and spring 2003 found original members Anthony Raneri (vocals/guitar) and Andrew Elderbaum (bass) being completed by Jim Mitchell (drums) and Jack O'Shea (guitar). That same summer, they released a split EP with Name Taken, before signing with Chicago powerhouse Victory Records. Sirens and Condolences, their brooding debut full-length produced by J. Robbins (Jawbox), was issued in January 2004. Along with a relentless show schedule, the guys utilized community-oriented Web sites like Friendster and Myspace to promote their music and build up a loyal underground following. Also during this time, bassist Nick Ghanbarian (ex-the Movielife, Silent Majority) and N.Y.C. veteran drummer John "Beatz" Holohan joined Bayside's ranks, replacing Elderbaum and Mitchell, respectively. Going into their next album, Bayside was feeling stronger and more cohesive than ever before, and wanted to depart from the group of producers that many of their peers had thus been using. Consequently, their August 2005 self-titled effort materialized with Shep Goodman and Ken Gioia at the controls; they had previously worked on albums by Mandy Moore and Lee Ann Womack. With their album done, an energized Bayside hit the road with Hawthorne Heights, Silverstein, and Aiden on the Never Sleep Again tour. But on the morning of October 31, their van hit a patch of ice and flipped over on the way to a show in Salt Lake City. Holohan was tragically killed in the accident and Ghanbarian severely injured. Grieving the loss, Bayside dropped off subsequent shows before Raneri and O'Shea decided to honor their friends by pressing on as a duo and performing acoustically. Taking place at Chicago's House of Blues, their set at the tour's last stop was recorded and released in February 2006. The live DVD and accompanying ten-song Acoustic EP included the new song "Winter," a tribute to Holohan. After a brief headlining tour, Bayside next spent the beginning of 2006 as the main support for the Smoking Popes' reunion tour. With Ghanbarian recovered and new drummer Chris Guglielmo on board, the band looked forward to their next album. Recording again with producers Goodman and Gioia, the aptly titled The Walking Wounded was issued in early February 2007; it found the guys not explicitly focusing on their earlier tragedy, but instead on survival and moving forward.

HISTORY :

The Beginning

Bayside formed in the winter of 2000 out of Queens, New York. Their name originated from Raneri's hometown of Bayside, Queens. They self released a 5 song demo and signed to Dying Wish Records to issue their first release, Long Stories Short EP in 2001. The band also released a split with Name Taken in 2003 on the same label before signing to the much larger Victory Records later that year. Sirens and CondolencesBayside's debut full length album, was released on January 27, 2004 through Victory Records. The album features the song "Masterpiece". They followed their debut album up with their self-titled album Bayside which was released on September 1, 2005 by Victory Records.

John "Beatz" Holohan's Death

John "Beatz" Holohan was killed in a car accident that involved the entire band. On October 31, 2005, at approximately 3:13 AM in Cheyenne, Wyoming, after leaving their Boulder, Colorado show, the band's vehicle hit a patch of ice, skidded off the road, and flipped over. Holohan was killed and Bayside bassist Nick Ghanbarian was seriously injured when he was ejected through one of the van's windows. He broke his L-4 (lumbar vertebrae) which required surgery. Bandmates Anthony and Jack escaped with minor injuries. Bayside issued the appropriately titled Acoustic, which featured a tribute to Holohan and acoustic renditions of some of their songs. The song "Winter" is dedicated to him.

Walking Wounded

After the death of John "Beatz" Holohan, Chris Guglielmo became their new drummer. On July 22, 2007, the band re-released their album The Walking Wounded. The new edition contains bonus live acoustic tracks as well as a bonus DVD. The DVD includes live acoustic recordings, music videos, and documentaries.

Shudder/Live at the Bayside Social Club

On September 30, 2008 the band released its fourth full length album, Shudder and live album Live at the Bayside Social Club. Prior to its release, singer Anthony Raneri described the album as having a more punk sound than their previous record The Walking Wounded.
On September 5, 2008, the album was leaked onto various file-sharing sites. The first single, "No One Understands" generated significant attention from fans through the band's MySpace page. The band had also played "I Think I'll Be OK" at shows during the summer of 2008.
Around September 22, 2008, the album was put up to stream on the band's official MySpace page. On October 4, 2008, the music video for the song "No One Understands" was posted for viewing on the band's official MySpace page.

Present

The band made its 3rd performance at The Bamboozle Festival at Giants Stadium on May 2.  According to recent interviews with the band, with the release of Shudder, the band has finished their contract with Victory Records. The band released a cover of "Beautiful Girls" by Sean Kingston for Fearless Records Punk Goes Pop 2.
Bayside finished their fourth stint on the Vans Warped Tour this summer and on tour finishing up their final shows of 2009. There has been much publicized about Bayside's post-Victory Records future but as of now there has been no announcement made as far as where the band's new home will be. The band plans on beginning work on their new album which they plan on releasing in 2010. With no hints at a title, studio, producer or even a label for the project, Alternative Press Magazine has already named the mystery Bayside album one of the most anticipated albums of 2010 in their annual feature.
By way of his blog, twitter account and various interviews, there has also been talk about a solo release from frontman Anthony Raneri. On December 4, 2009, at 12:00 am he released a demo version of "The Ballad of Bill the Saint" on his personal Myspace page, the first recorded song from his upcoming solo album. Additional information regarding the album's release remains undisclosed. Bayside has recently finished demoing the first and second batch of songs for their upcoming album. The demos were named the "Babylon Sessions".
On March 10, 2010, the Alternative Press website released news that Bayside has signed to the record label Wind-Up Records, projecting their next release to be fall of the same year.
