About:
Taking Back Sunday originally formed in Amityville, New York, USA in 1999. The band has gone through several lineup changes. Their first release came in 2001 with the Taking Back Sunday EP, and featured Antonio Longo on vocals, John Nolan on guitar and backing vocals, Eddie Reyes on guitar (the original founder of the band), Jesse Lacey, Adam Lazzara and Mark O’Connell replaced Stevie D) they released the follow-up album Tell All Your Friends, which was produced by Sal Villaneuva. The album gave the band a first taste of success in the scene. After the release, they played with bands such asBrand New (formed by former bassist Jesse Lacey) and The Used, as well as performing as a short stint on the 2003 Vans Warped Tour. Another change in their lineup occurred when singer/guitarist John Nolan and bassist Shaun Cooper left the band and formed what is now Straylight Run. Because of these departures, the band’s future was in doubt for some time. However, with the additions of guitarist/vocalist Fred Mascherino and bassist Matt Rubano, the band became stabilized.

The year 2004 proved to be a successful year for Taking Back Sunday, with the band opening for blink-182 and being one of the main headliners for the Vans Warped Tour. In addition, their second album, titled Where You Want to Be, was released on July 27, 2004 on Victory Records. This album had a different sound than Tell All Your Friends. Propelled by the single A Decade Under the Influence,Where You Want to Be went on to debut at the #3 spot on the Billboard 200 albums chart, with sales of around 163,000 copies. Taking Back Sunday received even more mainstream exposure by appearing (on the day of Where You Want to Be’s release) on the late night talk shows Jimmy Kimmel Live and Loveline, and by contributing the song This Photograph Is Proof (I Know You Know) to the soundtrack for Spider-Man 2. They also contributed the song Your Own Disaster to the Elektra soundtrack, and the original version of Error: Operator to both the Fantastic Four soundtrack and tie-in video game, where it served as Mr. Fantastic’s theme. An instrumental version is also used as background music within the game.

On April 25, 2006, Taking Back Sunday released their third album, entitled Louder Now, on Warner Bros. Records. It nearly mirrors the first two albums in style and message, yet delivers with a more polished sound. Louder Now was leaked onto the Internet in its entirety on April 19, 2006. Taking Back Sunday received mainstream exposure by appearing on the late night talk shows The Tonight Show, Jimmy Kimmel Live, and Late Night With Conan O’Brien.

In April 2006, Taking Back Sunday took part in the 2-day Give It a Name indoor rock festival in
England. The band played at Manchester Evening News Arena on Saturday, April 29 and London Earls Court on Sunday, April 30. During the first song of their set at the Earls Court show, Adam Lazzara kissed Matt Rubano on the lips. Later on during the festival he hit Matt while swinging his microphone and knocked him out cold. He was rushed backstage for medical treatment. Rubano later returned to the stage sporting a large head-bandage and a noticeable amount of blood on his face. Following his return to the stage, Rubano continued to play while sitting down. In a less noted incident, during the band’s last song at the MEN show, the pedal to the bass drum broke, and the band had to stall whilst a replacement was found and installed.

The band released the follow-up single to MakeDamnSure, Twenty-Twenty Surgery, on August 21 2006 in the UK. The video depicts Lazzara as Johnny Cash.

Taking Back Sunday embarked on their North American Tour on February 22, 2007 at
Bryce Jordan Center in University Park, PA with supporting bands Underoath and Armor for Sleep. This tour was sort of a throw back where they featured older songs from previous albums, and they played the songBrooklyn (If You See Something, Say Something) for the first time live.

In April 2007, the band supported Lostprophets on their UK arena tour along with Aiden.

On May 6, 2007 the band was Linc’s special guest for the Bamboozle Festival.

In October 2007, Fred Mascherino, the lead guitarist and backup vocalist left the band. He has recently started up his solo project, The Color Fred, and released an album at the end of October 2007, “Bend To Break” by EQUAL VISION RECORDS.

The band has currently recruited guitarist and vocalist Matt Fazzi formerly of Facing New York and have just released their fourth album, New Again.

In August 2009, Taking Back Sunday performed at the Virgin Mobile FreeFest at the Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Maryland. This is their second year in a row playing at the festival with great reviews. The previous year the festival was held at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, MD.

In late 2009, Alternative Press Magazine named Taking Back Sunday’s new album, “New Again”, album of the year.

History :

Early years (1999–2002)

Taking Back Sunday originally formed in 1999 with Antonio Longo on lead vocals, Jesse Lacey (now lead singer/guitarist of Brand New) on bass and backing vocals, John Nolan (now lead singer/guitarist of Straylight Run) on guitar, Eddie Reyes (former guitarist for The Movielife) on guitar, and Steven DeJoseph on drums. Their first release was the Taking Back Sunday EP. However, in the middle of recording the EP, the band went through a lineup change. Lacey left the band to play for The Rookie Lot and went on to great success with Brand New. He was replaced byLiam Read, and Mark O'Connell replaced DeJoseph on drums. The band has since mentioned this decision was highly influenced by long time friends What Hands Are For. The five-song EP was finally released in February 2001; though distributed at shows, the EP never achieved noteworthy success.[6]
By the time their first album was released, Taking Back Sunday would again go through a major lineup change. After Longo was forced to leave the band, Liam Read moved to lead vocals and Shaun Cooper was recruited to play bass.

Independent success (2002–2005)

After replacing Read with Adam Lazzara on lead vocals, the band released their first full album Tell All Your Friends, on Victory Records in 2002. Tell All Your Friends gave the band a small taste of success in the alternative rock spotlight.
The album cover is a picture of an off-ramp, with an overlay of the album title and the numbers "152", signifying the exit where they met their friends. The number has appeared on every LP cover to date.
In 2003, guitarist/vocalist John "Big Dogg" Nolan and bassist Shaun Cooper left the band to form Straylight Run. The loss of Nolan and Cooper put the already unstable band into a state of heightened tension. However, Taking Back Sunday added Fred Mascherino guitar and vocals as well as Matt Rubano on bass.
The year of 2004 proved to be successful for Taking Back Sunday, with the band opening for Blink-182 and appearing on the Vans Warped Tour. In addition, their second album, Where You Want To Be, was released on July 27, 2004, on Victory Records. Although sounding slightly different from Tell All Your Friends, the new album managed to do well commercially. Propelled by the single A Decade Under The InfluenceWhere You Want To Be went on to debut at the #3 spot on the Billboard 200 albums chart, with around 163,000 copies sold.
Taking Back Sunday received even more mainstream exposure by appearing on late night talk shows Jimmy Kimmel Live! where Read had the job of hosting Loveline, as well as contributing the song This Photograph Is Proof (I Know You Know) to the soundtrack for Spider-Man 2. They also contributed the song Your Own Disaster to the Elektra soundtrack, andError Operator to both the Fantastic 4 soundtrack and its video game tie-in, where it served as Mr. Fantastic's theme. An instrumental version is also used as background music in the game. In 2007, the band contributed the song What's It Feel Like to Be a Ghost? to the soundtrack for Transformers, although the song did not appear in the movie. Also, the band was featured in the Tony Hawk's American Wasteland soundtrack when they covered the Descendent songs "Suburban Home" and "I Like Food" together as a medley.

Major label debut (2006–2007)

On April 25, 2006, Taking Back Sunday released their third album, entitled Louder Now, on Warner Bros. Records. The band's comments on the album reflected the dramatic change the band had undergone in the two years since their last release. Read stated that fans seemed to feel their live shows had more energy than their recordings, and that Louder Now brought more of that across. Louder Now draws its name from the opening track "What's It Feel Like To Be A Ghost?" and Where You Want to Be's "Bonus Mosh Pt II". In fact, all of Taking Back Sunday's full-length albums have been named after lyrics from songs featured on the album, but during a point where the titles hadn't been decided yet. Tell All Your Friends derived its name from "Cute Without The E (Cut From The Team)," and Where You Want To Be from "Set phasers To Stun." New Again will be the first LP from Taking Back Sunday to feature a title track.
Taking Back Sunday received mainstream exposure by appearing on the late night talk shows The Tonight Show with Jay LenoJimmy Kimmel Live!, and Late Night with Conan O'Brien, as well as the teen drama Degrassi: The Next Generation in an episode entitled What's It Feel Like To Be A Ghost?.
In December 2006, the band released its first CD/DVD documentary, Louder Now: PartOne, featuring behind-the-scenes tour footage and four live concerts. Following months of touring to support Louder Now, Taking Back Sunday appeared in the American leg of Live Earth on July 7, 2007. During the summer of 2007, Taking Back Sunday was also a part of Linkin Park'sProjekt Revolution tour, along with My Chemical Romance, HIM, and many other bands.
On October 30, 2007, the band's former record label, Victory Records, released Notes From The Past, which featured four songs from Tell All Your Friends, six songs from Where You Want To Be, and two B-sides: The Ballad of Sal Villanueva and Your Own Disaster ('04 mix). The band then released Louder Now: Part Two on November 20, 2007, a DVD of unreleased live concert footage from their show at Long Beach Arena in Long Beach, California, as well as special features such as the video for "Twenty-Twenty Surgery" that was made for Europe. The DVD was packaged with a companion CD featuring eight live tracks, two B-sides that were previously unreleased in America, and a special "Twelve Days of Christmas" track.

Departure of Fred Mascherino and New Again (2007–present)

In October 2007 the band announced that Taking Back Sunday and guitarist Fred Mascherino would be parting ways. This came after Mascherino decided to focus on his then upcoming solo album with The Color Fred. He was later replaced by Matthew Fazzi , who would provide guitar and backing vocals. Mascherino went on in later interviews to reveal: "There were just problems between the five of us about writing, who was going to do it and how we were going to do it, we weren't being very productive because we were fighting too much about that stuff. The band was more about cooking food than making music." This statement lead to the band writing the track "Capital M-E", which features lyrical references to Mascherino's departure and the comments he made afterwards.
On November 6, 2008, Taking Back Sunday revealed in Rolling Stone that their fourth studio album was to be titled New Again and would feature the tracks "Winter Passing", "Lonely Lonely", "Catholic Knees", and "Carpathia". They stated that "Winter Passing" was "...a slow dance like the last song at your 8th grade dance [that] moves more like an R&B tune than arock and roll song", and that "Carpathia" will include the first bass solos in any Taking Back Sunday song. They also commented that "Catholic Knees" is "one of the heavier songs we've ever written", and that "Lonely Lonely" is "relentless - two and a half minutes of punching you in the face". In the build-up to the release of New Again, the band released a number of tracks, first of which was "Carpathia" on December 21, 2008, as a free digital download to those who purchased the band's Christmas holiday set, with a physical limited vinyl release of the track as well as a live version of "Catholic Knees" released on April 18, 2009, secondly title track "New Again" as a free single download from the band's website on April 16, 2009, followed by the first full single "Sink Into Me", released on April 20, 2009, premiering on BBC Radio 1's Zane Lowe show, and being made available digitally short after. On May 16, 2009, "Everything Must Go" was released to stream on the band's MySpace. Every Monday, the band released a new song on their MySpace from New Again labeling it "New Music Monday".
During their tour supportng New Again, the band played in Dublin, Ireland where guitarist Matt Fazzi fractured his foot. Despite this, the show in Belfast, Northern Ireland went on and the rest of the tour was completed, which included stops in the UK at Sonisphere Festival and the Kerrang! awards show.
On August 18, 2009, the band released a digital live album entitled Live from Bamboozle '09. The album consists of 13 live tracks recorded while the band played at The Bamboozle in May of the same year.
In September 2009, the band announced they will be co-headlining with The All-American Rejects and Anberlin for a full U.S tour. They are also set to release a live acoustic DVD following the tour, around springtime 2010.
On February 12, 2010, the band released an unreleased b-side from New Again titled "Winter Passing" on their official website.
