Miss May I was formed in 2006, in Troy, Ohio with the original members being Levi Benton, Justin Aufdemkampe, BJ Stead, Ryan Neff (who left in late 2007 to join Cincinnat band, Rose Funeral and was then replaced by Joshua Gillespie), and Jerod Boyd. They started as a group of 16-year olds, and their first release was a 5-track EP titled Vows for a Massacre and followed it up with a demo in 2008, which was self-released. This demo contained 4 tracks, including "Architect" and "Tides", which would later on be featured in their first full-length album, Apologies Are for the Weak in 2009. It was after this release, that the band was signed to Rise Records.

After just beginning their tour with Carnifex, Impending Doom, and Conducting from the Grave, Miss May I's then bassist/guitarist, Gillespie, made the decision to leave the band. According to Gillespie, touring just "wasn't for [him]", and he knew that with the debut album being put out touring was going to be essential. Ryan Neff re-joined the band after his short lived position in Rose Funeral.

The band has also covered "Swing" by rapper Savage. They toured on the "Bangover Tour" with Blessthefall, Greeley Estates, and Before Their Eyes.

On April 5, 2010, it was announced that the band will be embarking on the Back to the Roots tour along with The Devil Wears Prada and Your Demise. The tour will begin on June 28, 2010 and will end on August 29, 2010 going all across the United States.

According to the website of producer Joey Sturgis' Foundation Studios, Miss May I have booked studio time in May 2010 to ostensibly record the follow-up to their debut album. According to Ryan Neffs twitter, the new album will be sometime released in August and they are filming new music video.

On June 11, 2010, Levi Benton announced that there would be a track on the new album called "Colossus" and that the album would be called "Monument".

On June 24th, Miss May I announced via Facebook that the new album "Monument" will be released August 17th and that they are recording a video at Mansfield Prison for the song "Relentless Chaos."

On June 28th, Miss May I released the new album artwork for "Monument" which features the "Apologies Are For The Weak" Lion in the form of what seems to be a Door Handle. The band's new Logo is featured as well.

On July 6th, 2010, "Relentless Chaos" was released on the band's Myspace, also featuring the new album artwork and logo. Also on July 6th, a promotional video for Monuments was released with a 40 second preview of the song "Our Kings" at The Basement located in Columbus, Ohio.

On August 31, it was announced that Miss May I would be covering "Run This Town" on Punk Goes Pop 3.

On September 3rd, 2010, Miss May I released their music video for the song "Relentless Chaos".

The Black Dahlia Murder gained their final band line-up in January 2001 and released their first demo entitled What a Horrible Night to Have a Curse, and a four-track EP, A Cold-Blooded Epitaph, the latter of which the group released on its own Lovelost Records. After appearing in concerts such as the Milwaukee Metal Fest, The Black Dahlia Murder signed to Metal Blade Records in 2003.

The band played in Ozzfest 2005 and also participated in the Sounds of the Underground tour in 2006, which encompasses both the United States and Canada. They also played at Wacken Open Air in 2007.

Current bassist Bart Williams left his former band, Detroit's Today I Wait, to tour with the Black Dahlia Murder. After touring with the band on their co-headlining gig with Throwdown and their European dates with Liar, he joined the group full-time, replacing former bassist David Lock. Frontman Trevor Strnad said that Lock was fired for incompetency. Williams was one of two engineers (the other being Walls of Jericho's Mike Hasty) on the band's first full-length album, Unhallowed.

The band's second album Miasma peaked at #118 on the Billboard 200. After touring for the Miasma record drummer Zach Gibson left the band leading to Pierre Langlois joining. Zach Gibson went on to join Abigail Williams. Recently, Pierre Langlois left the band for a more secure lifestyle, and the band has finished their search for a replacement drummer and found former All That Remains drummer, Shannon Lucas.

Their third album, entitled Nocturnal, was released on September 18, 2007. The album debuted at #72 on the Billboard 200.

The Black Dahlia Murder announced on their MySpace that they were going on a U.S. tour with Cannibal Corpse to promote their new albumNocturnal and celebrate the 25 years that Metal Blade Records has been in business. They were joined by label-mates The Red Chord,Aeon, The Absence, and Goatwhore.

In January/February 2008, the band embarked on a U.S. headlining tour with 3 Inches of Blood, Hate Eternal, and Decrepit Birth, followed by another alongside Brain Drill and Animosity. They were on Hot Topic's "Summer Slaughter Tour" with Kataklysm, Cryptopsy, Vader, Whitechapel, and Despised Icon.

Recently the band has announced that long time lead guitarist John K has left the band and has been replaced by Ryan Knight.

In May 2009, The Black Dahlia Murder released their first DVD, "Majesty". The DVD contains a documentary and live footage from the Summer Slaughter tour and their tour supporting Children of Bodom in late 2008. The DVD also contains all of their music videos and behind the scenes footage.

The Black Dahlia Murder released Deflorate on September 15, 2009 via Metal Blade Records. In addition to hitting the #43 position in Billboard's Top 200 charts, the record came in at #5 on Billboard's Independent Albums chart, #4 on Billboard's Top Hard Music Albums chart, and #50 on HITS Top 50 Albums chart. They toured with Children of Bodom andSkeletonwitch in support of the album.

On July 7, 2009, their song "What a Horrible Night to Have a Curse" was made available as downloadable content for Rock Band.

The Black Dahlia Murder have been stated to play within the genres of metalcore, melodic death metal and deathcore. The band's music makes use of the death metal sound, containing elements such as blast beats and fast death metal style. According to their MySpace page, their sound is influenced by Carcass, At the Gates, Darkane, Dissection,Darkthrone, Morbid Angel, The Haunted, In Flames, Dimension Zero, Iron Maiden, Metallica, and Megadeth. Vocalist Trevor Strnad alternates between deep, throaty "death metal growls," and high pitched shrieking. When asked to describe what kind of music the band plays, vocalist Trevor Strnad commented: "I've always said that we're melodic death metal. We are mostly influenced by Swedish bands and Carcass. The heavy end of our sound is the American style creeping in, with some Floridian influences like Morbid Angel, Malevolent Creationand that kind of stuff. We've been labeled more often because of our look than our sound, which is dumb, and speaks volumes about what kind of geniuses are out there!"

However, in an interview with Uranium Magazine, Strnad also stated, "Some bands that get labeled as metalcore are actually good, like Between the Buried and Me or The Red Chord.Metal is what I grew up with, and then I learned about punk and hardcore. But a lot of our ethics, the way we carry ourselves, is more punk...I like that hardcore has a sense of community without the competition you see in metal."

Beginnings and Take to the Skies (2003–2008)

The band formed as an evolution from an earlier band, Hybryd, and formed in St Albans, England in 2003. All four members are from St Albans.

During 2003 and 2004, the band released three demo EPs that were available from their gigs and their website. They had another demo EP planned for release in 2005, (although no such EP materialized only recordings surfaced online) for this the first versions of Return To Energiser and Labyrinth were recorded, early versions of Ok Time For Plan B and We Can Breathe In Space were also recorded around this time but it's unclear if these were destined for the EP. In August 2006 they released a video of , the (only 100 copies) single "Mothership" which became the single of the week on the iTunes store. Their first physical single featured re-recorded versions of "Sorry You're Not a Winner/OK Time for Plan B", which had previously been featured on one of the demo EPs. It was released on October 30, 2006. It was limited to 1000 copies of each format and sold out within the first week of release. In mid January 2007, Enter Shikari's first single, "Mothership", entered the UK singles chart for one week at number 151, on Downloads only (despite its physical formats not being eligible for charts [at the band's request]. This was followed a week later by "Sorry You're Not a Winner/OK Time for Plan B", which charted at number 182 on the singles chart (despite its physical formats being ineligible for charts [at the band's request]) and number 146 in the Download Chart. In addition "Sorry You're Not a Winner/OK Time for Plan B" featured on EA Sports video game titleNHL 08 and also Madden 08.

Enter Shikari secured a spot on the Gibson/MySpace stage at 2006's Download Festival. They have also had interviews with popular music press such as Kerrang! and Rock Sound. On November 4, 2006, they became only the second unsigned band to ever sell out London Astoria (the first being The Darkness).

They also made the NME's "New Noise 2007", a list of the bands it considers most likely to achieve success in the coming year (previous years lists have included the likes of Arcade Fire, Hot Chip and Bloc Party).

The next single released was "Anything Can Happen in the Next Half Hour", on March 5, 2007. This was the band's second single to be released from their forthcoming debut album. It contained a re-recorded version of the song "Anything Can Happen in the Next Half Hour". It reached 27 in the Official UK chart. The band's debut album, Take to the Skies, was released on March 19, 2007 and on March 25 it reached number 4 in the UK Official Album Charts. It contained re-recordings of many of the songs that had featured on the demo EPs and singles that were released prior to the release of the album.

During the month of March, 2007 it was announced they would be playing at, Download Festival, Reading and Leeds Festivals, Give it a Name, Glastonbury Festival, Oxegen festival in Ireland and Rock am Ring in Germany. On March 30, 2007, Enter Shikari announced that their next single would be "Jonny Sniper" and would be released on June 18. The song's video was premiered on May 21. The single received bad reviews from the NME.

On June 6, 2007 they performed a live show on BBC Radio 1 for Zane Lowe at BBC Radio Theatre.

They played an eleven date headline tour in October/November 2007 including their biggest ever headline gig in the 4,921 capacity Carling Academy Brixton. The band released a compilation EP titled The Zone on November 12.

Enter Shikari have performed over 500 gigs as of 2007 and played on the Gibson/MySpace stage at 2006's Download Festival in November 4, 2006. Enter Shikari started their first North America tour. This followed into three more North American tours.

In January 2008, Enter Shikari performed in Australia and New Zealand for the first time as part of the Big Day Out Festival. The band also did a number of side-shows in Australia, including two sold out shows at the Hi-Fi Bar in Melbourne.

They played at Projekt Revolution in Milton Keynes on June 29, 2008, alongside Linkin Park, Jay-Z, N.E.R.D, The Bravery, InnerPartySystem and Pendulum.

Take to the Skies has sold 250,000 copies worldwide, and was certified Gold in the UK.

On 13 May 2008, the band released the first in a series of videos called "Enter Shikari: In the 'Low". The videos, posted on the band's YouTube page, showcased the band as they recorded their new single, "We Can Breathe In Space, They Just Don't Want Us To Escape", and demoed new material. One of the new songs set to feature on the album was 'Step Up', which was first performed at Milton Keynes Pitz on June 28, 2008, the warm up show to Projekt Revolution the following day.

On 8 August 2008, it was announced that "We Can Breathe In Space, They Just Don't Want Us To Escape" would be released as a single. It was said to be a drastic re-working of the song originally demoed by the band back in 2005, but was not be included on the band's second album.

They completed a tour of the UK and Ireland which took place over the course of 6 weeks; from September 30 to November 4, 2008; and consisted of 28 shows. A DVD compilation of live footage filmed by band / crew along with some TV footage was to be released to coincide with the tour according to a Kerrang! interview with the band, but has not been released as of yet.

Common Dreads (2009–present)

It was confirmed by NME that Enter Shikari had finished working on their second album, Common Dreads, in March 2009 and announced that they would tour the UK and Europe during 2009. They also made available a free download of a new song, Antwerpen from their website. On 15 April 2009 Juggernauts was played on Radio 1 as Zane Lowe's "Hottest Track in the World" and was released as a single on June 1, 2009. The B-side of the single is "All Eyes On The Saint". The band also had help from musician Danny Sneddon who helped with the recording of Juggernauts. On May 1 Kerrang featured their track-by-track of the album. Metal Hammer were the first to review the album online with a track-by-track. Since it was announced in an interview with Andy Copping on Scuzz on their "The Digital Darkside: Download Special" that there would be 2 secret bands playing at Download Festival 2009, it has been heavily speculated that Enter Shikari would play one of these slots. They were confirmed to be one of the secret bands on the 9th June 2009. Enter Shikari also featured at Reading and Leeds Festivals on the 29 and 30 August 2009, playing songs from Common Dreads, as well as acoustic variations of 'Juggernauts', 'No Sleep Tonight' and 'Adieu' from Take To The Skies.

Common Dreads was released through Ambush Reality on the 15th June 2009 and debuted at #16 on the UK top 40 album chart. The second single that has been released from Common Dreads was No Sleep Tonight. The 7" vinyl, CD single and MP3 download was released on August 17, 2009. A slightly modified version of the song "Wall" was released as a radio single, and a video for the song "Zzzonked" made of clips of a live show which was played at Norwich UEA, was also released.

A 2-disc version of Common Dreads was due to be released in January 2010.Frontman Rou Reynolds announced that “We’ve got a different artist for each single from Hospital Records to do drum ‘n’ bass remixes so we’ll be releasing that as a 12". Then we're doing the same thing with (dubstep label) True Tiger who've done a dubstep remix of each single.” however it was later said in a Radio 1 interview that in fact they were only having their main singles remixed.

The new single "Thumper" was released on January 19, 2010, on BBC Radio One, As well the new single "Tribalism", which was first played on Radio 1, February 16, 2010. These songs come off the new B-sides and remixes album Tribalism, which was released on February 22, 2010.

Since March 2009, drummer Rob Rolfe has not been able to perform at United States shows due to a denial of a visa. Rob has chosen Fellsilent drummer, Christopher Mansbridge to fill in for these dates. Although, on July 9th, 2010 Rob stated in a Twitter post that he has gotten a visa.

On June 14, 2010, Enter Shikari announced that they had returned to the studio to do a 'one off new track' which is to be released some time during the summer of 2010 called "Destabilise".

On June 25, 2010, Enter Shikari arrived in Carson, California for their first day on Vans Warped Tour 2010. They played around the country until July 18, 2010. It was the first time Enter Shikari had been on Warped Tour.

After finishing their part of Warped Tour, Enter Shikari played a few festivals such as headlining Redfest and supported The Prodigy at Milton Keynes Bowl followed by a very exclusive show at the 400 capacity venue Underworld situated in Camden which was filmed and recorded as a possible DVD release, though technical problems with the recording - caused by heat and moisture in the room - resulted in it being highly unlikely that a majority of the show will ever see the light of day.

Enter Shikari will also support 30 Seconds to Mars on the Into The Wild Tour of UK arenas in November and December 2010.

The original drummer for the band was Mike Coburn. He left the band shortly before they started touring at the end of 2003. After a few fill-in drummers, Brian Champ soon became the main drummer for Greeley Estates. They went through a few bass players who all left Greeley Estates before they began touring the US. Jared Wallace ("Outside of This") was then replaced by Josh Applebach.

Greeley Estates was one of PureVolume’s top 10 unsigned artists with over a million plays—an accolade supported by having album sales in the top 10 on Smartpunk since October 2004. Their distribution record further secured them a position on the Smartpunk chart for "Sales of All Time". They signed to Record Collection, and they were on every date of the Vans Warped Tour in 2005. Also, Greeley Estates co-headlined the MySpace Fall Tour 2005.

Greeley Estates' work is featured on the Punk the Clock Vol. 1 & 2 compilations, along with artists such as Taking Back Sunday,Acceptance, Mae, and Underoath. They have also appeared on the 2005, 2007 and 2008 Warped tour compilations. The band also performed on the Hurley Stage for the entirety of the 2006 and 2008 Vans Warped Tour and the entire 2006 Taste of Chaos.

Other accomplishments include extensive touring, a DVD entitled The Death of Greeley Estates released in May 2005, playing on the Taste of Chaos tour and continual play on KEDJ 103.9 alternative rock radio in Phoenix.

On January 31, 2007, bassist Josh Applebach announced that he would leave Greeley Estates for a teaching career in Arizona. Bradley Murray (previously with Versus the Mirror) from Tucson, Arizona became their touring bassist. His first live appearance with the band was on February 3, 2007 in Safford, Arizona.

On June 3, 2007, guitarist Dallas Smith announced that he would be leaving the band in order to start up a family with his wife and expected twin daughters (he and his wife were to subsequently lose the pregnancy). He made this announcement via a Myspace bulletin and announced that his last show would be June 20, 2007 at the Clubhouse in Tempe, Arizona.

After their Mexican tour with Silverstein, Brad Murray left the band for personal reasons.

On September 4, 2007, Greeley Estates recorded their new album. The two new members of Greeley Estates include Alex Torres (previously with Eyes Set to Kill) and Joshua Ferguson (previously with Glory Nights)

After the band finished recording their new album Go West Young Man, Let The Evil Go East, Joshua Ferguson left to complete his apprenticeship as a hair stylist in Calgary, Alberta, Canada; personal reasons seem to be why he left.

Greeley Estates had announced Tyler "Telle" Smith as their new bassist, who was formerly of In Fear and Faith. Smith played his first show with the band on February 9, 2008, at the Clubhouse in Tempe, Arizona.

In 2008 Greeley Estates had a track, entitled "Let The Evil Go East", on the Warped Tour 2008 compilation.

Their third album titled Go West Young Man, Let The Evil Go East was released May 6, 2008. For the track "Blue Morning" on their new album, Greeley Estates hired music video director Daniel Chesnut to create a high energy, intense video, to match the band's new persona.

On Friday, November 14, 2008, Greeley Estates announced that their newest bassist Tyler "Telle" Smith (now in The Word Alive), found within the course of the same year, had left the band. The blog on their myspace stated:

"Once again, the curse of the Greeley bass players.... has struck again! Eight hours before leaving for the Alesana tour, Telle told us that he would no longer be in Greeley Estates. But don't fret! We will not be missing any shows... we could never do that to you guys/girls! Our tour manager Dave is filling in last minute for us. This means, you all need to come out and sing louder than ever. See you soon!!!!"

A new song, entitled "Seven Hours" is streaming on their MySpace page. There will be 12 tracks on the new album. The album's artwork was recently posted on their newest MySpace blog. On 27 November, the band uploaded a second song off the new album. The song is called "Jealousy Breeds Killing Sprees" which features guest vocals Craig Mabbitt from Escape the Fate. Another new song from album No Rain, No Rainbow entitled "Friends Are Friends For Never" was posted on their myspace page on January 6. The album was released on January 26.

As of June 12, 2010, guitarist Alex Torres announced his departure from the band via MySpace. In the blog, he stated; "Im not exactly sure how to say this, but as of a month ago, I let the guys know that I would be leaving the band.. and the "Oh, Sleeper" tour would be my last tour in Greeley Estates... To clear things up early, NO there is NO bad blood, and everyone is on good terms. Greeley has been my family since 2007, and that will NOT change."

With a lineup that sports several members that are still in high school, it would be easy to dismiss Ephrata, PA’s TEXAS IN JULY as a novelty act. To do so, however, would be a disservice to a band that is every bit as talented as many artists who have honed their craft for years.

In fact, in the year since the release of their 2008 debut EP, Salt of the Earth, TEXAS has created a growing buzz for themselves with their exciting groove-oriented take on modern metalcore, resulting in impressive sales (of a digital-only EP), packed tour dates, and a massive internet buzz leading up to the release of their debut full-length, I Am (In stores September 15 th on CI Records).

When the band uploaded the first preview track of I Am to their myspace page, the epic stand-out “Elements”, the song was played more than 10,000 times in the first day – an impressive number for a band who, at that point, had yet to leave for their first tour. In the following weeks, as the band traveled from town to town, they found people showing up and singing along to a track from a record that had yet to be released.

A quick search on YouTube will reveal guitarists and drummers playing along with songs from Salt of the Earth, trying to show that they can “keep up”. That’s some heady stuff for a high school student to process, but so far, says guitarist Logan Maurer, TIJ have managed to keep their feet planted firmly on the ground.

“The key word in our band is ‘humble,’” he explains. “We want everybody to know that anyone could do this. We want them to know that we are just like them and that we simply stuck with our dreams. We try to stay humble and let the fans know that we love them and that without them, we wouldn’t be where we are.”

Produced by Carson Slovak of CENTURY (Prosthetic Records), I Am shows the maturation of a band already mature beyond their years. Armed with a prodigious chops and a song-writing prowess that belies their ages, I Am represents a band that is ready for national attention. From the brutal churning rhythms of “Elements” to the mathy angular guitar riffs of their hometown anthem, “Lancaster”, to the brutal “Satellites” (featuring GWEN STACY vocalist Geoff Jenkins), TEXAS IN JULY display an acumen for songcraft that comes only with dedication, commitment, and maybe a little help from above.

“The fact is,” Maurer continues, “Without God, none of us would have the ability to do anything that we do. He has blessed us in so many ways, so this is almost our way to return the favor.”

August Burns Red was founded in 2002. The band recorded an EP titled Looks Fragile After All. After about a year of playing shows and a new vocalist the band was signed to Solid State Records in 2005 and released Thrill Seeker on November 8 of that year. In 2006, drummerMatt Greiner was endorsed by Truth Custom Drums.

Their second album, Messengers, was released on June 19, 2007. It has sold over 90,000 copies thus far, and has peaked at number 81 on the Billboard 200.

From April to May 2008, August Burns Red toured with As I Lay Dying and Misery Signals.

The band toured from August 27 to October 12, 2008 with A Skylit Drive, Sky Eats Airplane, Greeley Estates, and This or the Apocalypse. August Burns Red headlined the tour.

The band also visited the UK and Europe for a month long headlining tour in November 2008 playing in Germany, Finland, Norway, Sweden, The United Kingdom, Republic Of Ireland, Northern Ireland, Italy, Belgium, The Netherlands, Czech Republic, Slovakia, and France.

The band has recorded an instrumental of the classic song, "Carol of the Bells" originally recorded for X Christmas. This cover is featured in certain trailers for the movie The Spirit, which was released Christmas Day 2008.

August Burns Red recorded a cover of "...Baby One More Time" by pop singer Britney Spears for the Punk Goes Pop 2 compilation album, released in March 2009.

August Burns Red released a song called "Chasing the Dragon" that was part of a new EP called Lost Messengers: The Outtakes. It contains B-sides, demos, and covers from the recording process of Messengers. The EP was released on February 24.

On March 6, 2009, the band also visited the Middle East for the first time, playing at the Dubai Desert Rock Festival.

The band announced on their Spring Headliner Tour with All That Remains that their latest album, called Constellations, will be released July 14th, 2009.

They completed a headlining tour from July 10 to August 8 with Blessthefall, Enter Shikari, All Shall Perish. After this tour, the band toured Australia during August with Architects andParkway Drive.

They are also billed to support Bring Me the Horizon on their October UK tour alongside A Day To Remember.

The band released a music video for their song Meddler off their album Constellations in the month of June 2009. They also released a song titled Thirty and Seven, on their Myspace on June 14, 2009 and another one on June 21, 2009 titled Existence. A third track from the upcoming album was added on June 29th, 2009 entitled "Ocean of Apathy".

On July 7, 2009, a week before its release, August Burns Red began streaming their upcoming album "Constellations" live on Myspace.

According to the Billboard sales charts "Constellations" charted at number 24 in its first week of release.

The world premiere of the brand new video titled Meddler was released on their MySpace page on July 28, 2009. The song is off their brand new album "Constellations" which is available in stores and online now.

According to the band Underoath, the band is joining a short tour starting in November along with Emery.

The band will be the main support act on A Day to Remember's Toursick in Spring 2010, along with Silverstein and Enter Shikari.

The Killers is an American rock band from Las Vegas, Nevada that formed in 2001. The band consists of Brandon Flowers (vocals,keyboards), Dave Keuning (guitar, backing vocals), Mark Stoermer (bass guitar, backing vocals) and Ronnie Vannucci Jr. (drums,percussion).

An alternative rock band, The Killers draw some of their influences from the music styles of the 1980s. The group's debut album, Hot Fuss (2004) brought the band mainstream success. The Killers' second album, Sam's Town, was released in 2006, and compilation album Sawdust containing B-sides, rarities, and new material, was released in 2007. Their third studio album, Day & Age, produced byStuart Price, was released in 2008.

The band has sold over 5 million albums in the United States, over 4.5 million albums in the United Kingdom and over 15 million worldwide.

Formation (2001–2004)

In 2001, Brandon Flowers was abandoned by his first band, a synthpop band known as Blush Response, after he declined to move with the rest of them to Los Angeles, California. He then met David Keuning after responding to an ad that Keuning had placed in a Vegas newspaper which listed Oasis, The Cure, Smashing Pumpkins, Beck, Depeche Mode, U2, and The Beatles as influences. During The Killers' first year, two different drummers were fired and their original bassist quit. By late 2002 the current rhythm section of Ronnie Vannucci Jr. on Drums and Mark Stoermer as bass guitarist had joined the band. The name "The Killers" comes from the bass drum of a fictional band in the music video for the New Order song "Crystal".

Initially, The Killers played at small clubs in Las Vegas, Nevada, where they often played at drag shows. They began to send demo tapes to major record labels in the US, all the record labels turned them down but the band caught the eye of Alex Gilbert, a British representative for Warner Bros. Though Warner did not like the band, Gilbert took the demo back with him, showing it to friend Ben Durling, who worked at UK indie label Lizard King Records. When label head Martin Heath was asked in an interview with HitQuarters what appealed to him about the band he said, "Great and interesting original-sounding songs. When we met Brandon Flowers for the first time it was very clear to me that he was a major star. He had huge charisma. He completely believed in what he was doing. He just stood out and carried the music." The Killers signed with the British label in July 2003.

On the 19 August 2003 , "Mr. Brightside" premiered on DJ Zane Lowe's BBC Radio 1 show in the UK. The Killers then travelled to London and began to play shows in bars and clubs, the crowds grew every night through word of mouth and critical reviews were extremely positive, soon after returning to the US they were signed by Island Def Jam.

Hot Fuss (2004 - 2006)

The Killers released their album Hot Fuss in June 2004 in the United Kingdom on Marrakesh Records and in the United States on Island Records. Hot Fuss reached Number 1 in the UK and has been classified 6x Platinum by the BPI. It reached the top spot in Australia, where it was certified 3x Platinum, and has also been certified 3x Platinum in the United States and Canada. The band also had chart success with its singles "Mr. Brightside," which reached the Top 10 in the UK and US, "All These Things That I've Done," "Somebody Told Me," and "Smile Like You Mean It."

In July 2005, The Killers performed on the London stage of the Live 8 concert, playing "All These Things That I've Done." Robbie Williamsincorporated the song's refrain "I've got soul but I'm not a soldier" into his own performance. Coldplay and U2 followed suit and, at their separate concerts played in Las Vegas, with The Killers in the crowd, incorporated the line into their songs "God Put a Smile Upon Your Face" and "Beautiful Day," respectively.

Sam's Town (2006–2007)
The Killers' second album, Sam's Town, was released in October 2006 under Island Def Jam Music Group. Brandon Flowers said thatSam's Town would be "one of the best albums people would remember 20 years from now", though the album received a mixed response from critics and fans. The album sold over 706,000 copies worldwide in the first week of release, with a number two debut on the Billboard chart. The record has been certified 4x Platinum in the United Kingdom and Platinum in the United States. The album produced four singles: "When You Were Young" released in September 2006, "Bones" which was released in November 2006, "Read My Mind" which was released in February 2007, and "For Reasons Unknown" which was released in June 2007.
The Killers recorded a live session at Abbey Road Studios for Live from Abbey Road on November 29, 2006. They performed an almost totally unplugged set, which included a rendition of the Dire Straits hit "Romeo and Juliet". In December 2006 the band released a Christmas charity song, "A Great Big Sled", which benefited Product Red. In February 2007, The Killers attended the BRIT Awards in the United Kingdom, where they performed "When You Were Young". The band won two awards — Best International Group & International Album. In June 2007, The Killers headlined the iconic Glastonbury Festival.

Sawdust (2007–2008)
The band released a compilation album called Sawdust, containing B-sides, rarities, and some new material, in November 2007. Sawdust has been classified Platinum by the BPI. The album's first single "Tranquilize", a collaboration with Lou Reed, was released in October 2007. The album also contains the songs "Ruby, Don't Take Your Love to Town", (a Kenny Rogers and The First Edition cover), "Romeo and Juliet", (a Dire Straits cover), and "Daddy's Eyes", a B-side from "Bones"/Best Buy Bonus Track to Sam's Town. The first pressing ofSawdust contained a rare demo version of "Move Away" which Brandon Flowers later stated was a mistake on the part of the band's record label; the proper version the group intended to put on the album was previously available on the Spider-Man 3 soundtrack is included on later pressings of Sawdust. The band released a cover version of Joy Division's "Shadowplay" on the American iTunes Store that same month. In a Rolling Stone magazine article, Sawdust was compared to the classic Smiths album Hatful of Hollow , they also released a second Christmas single titled "Don't Shoot Me Santa" this was again in aid of Product Red.

Day & Age (2008–2010)

The Killers finished working on a third album, which was released on November 24, 2008 in the UK and November 25, 2008 in North America. Brandon Flowers confirmed the album's title as Day & Age in an interview with NME.^[26] They worked with Stuart Price who did the Thin White Duke remix of "Mr Brightside" and produced "Leave the Bourbon on the Shelf" and "Sweet Talk". The first single from the album was "Human", although originally planned for Sawdust, it was released on September 22, with the music video released on iTunes on October 16. Day & Age became the band's third studio album to reach number one in both the UK and Ireland, it reached number six on the Billboard 200 album chart. The band released a third Christmas single in December 2008, "Joseph, Better You Than Me". It features Elton John and Neil Tennant of Pet Shop Boys. Proceeds from the downloads will benefit Product Red.

During the summer of 2009 The Killers headlined a number of festivals across Europe including the Friday night show of 2009's Hard Rock Calling in Hyde Park, London , they also headlined American festivals Lollapalooza and Coachella for the first time. On July 5–6 at the Royal Albert Hall, London The Killers recorded their first live DVD. It was released in November.

UNICEF, MTV EXIT (End Exploitation and Trafficking) and the US Agency for International Development used a shortened version of the song "Goodnight, Travel Well" in a video to promote awareness of sex trafficking. The Killers also released a Christmas single in December 2009 called "Happy Birthday Guadalupe", and in November 2009 their song "A White Demon Love Song" was added to the New Moon soundtrack.

In late February 2010, The Sun (a British newspaper) published the story that Flowers' mother had died after a two year fight with brain cancer. This meant a premature closing of their Day and Age tour cancelling the Asian dates. Two Australian dates in Sydney and Perth were cancelled, however both the Gold Coast and Melbourne concerts went ahead, with the Day & Age tour finally coming to a close in Melbourne on February 21 as the headline act at the Good Vibrations Festival at Flemington Racecourse.

Hiatus and fourth studio album (2010–present)

In January 2010, the band announced that they will take a short break after being on the road for the better part of six years.

The band, invited by US President Barack Obama, played on the White House South Lawn on July 4, 2010 for the second annual "Salute To The Military" United Service Organizationsconcert as part of Independence Day celebrations, which Flowers described as a "monumental honour". Despite their hiatus, the band got together to play "Human", "Somebody Told Me", "Mr. Brightside", "A Dustland Fairytale", "God Bless America/Read My Mind" and "When You Were Young".

As of June 15, 2010, Flowers has confirmed that The Killers have set a date to return to the studio and work on a follow-up album to Day & Age.

In an interview in August 2010, Brandon Flowers was quoted as saying that he had "saved an ace" in regards to a song he had written for his solo album Flamingo, but later decided he would save it for the next Killers album. In an interview with Zane Lowe for BBC Radio 1, Brandon said The Killers would get back together to work on the next record "as soon as possible in 2011." Formation and She Watched the Sky EP (2006–2007)

A Skylit Drive's original members all met while attending Lodi High School in Lodi. Cory La Quay (drummer) attended Franklin High School inElk Grove, California along with Matt Mingus (drummer) of Dance Gavin Dance. Their debut EP, She Watched the Sky, was released early in 2007 on Tragic Hero. Following this the group toured with Four Letter Lie, Blessthefall, Scary Kids Scaring Kids, Greeley Estates, Oh, Sleeper, The Blackout, Alesana, Before Their Eyes, Dance Gavin Dance, Kenotia, Pierce the Veil, and From First to Last.

Jordan Blake left the band mid-tour around November 2007 due to ulcers that wouldn't allow him to produce singing. Blake's departure was mutual between him and the other members of ASD. He went on to join Razing Alexandria for a short time, then formed the musical projects Watchout! Theres Ghosts!, JbdJ, and Trances.

Following Blake's departure from A Skylit Drive, Jonny Craig aided A Skylit Drive for a few shows after leaving Dance Gavin Dance.

Wires and the Concept of Breathing (2008)

A demo version of "Knights of the Round," was performed live with Jonny Craig as the lead vocalist during his few performances with the band in November 2007. Though Craig had written lyrics to the song, only the chorus or refrain is believed to have been kept in the final album version sang by their new-found, permanent vocalist Michael Jagmin. Michael "Jag" Jagmin, formerly of Odd Project, replaced Craig permanently for vocals. Craig Mabbitt was also trying for lead vocals after getting kicked out of blessthefall, but later joined Escape the Fate. The full length Wires...and the Concept of Breathing appeared in May 2008. The album hit #171 on the U.S. Billboard 200, as well as #9 on the Top Heatseekers Chart and #20 on the Top Independent Albums chart. Shortly after the release of the album they filmed a music video for the nonprofit group To Write Love on Her Arms directed by Robby Starbuck. They appeared at The Bamboozle Left in 2008 and toured in the summer of that year with Sky Eats Airplane, Breathe Carolina, and Emarosa.

They toured with Greeley Estates, August Burns Red, Sky Eats Airplane, This or the Apocalypse, Escape the Fate, Alesana, Chiodos, and Silverstein during fall in 2008. They also filmed a live DVD called "Let Go of the Wires", which was released on December 9, 2008.

In Mid-November the band released a music video for the song "Wires and the Concept of Breathing". The video can be viewed through their MySpace profile. Their song "This Isn't the End" is now the music video on their MySpace directed by Robby Starbuck about teen suicide in conjunction with the non-profit organization To Write Love on Her Arms. Both videos are on their first full length album, Wires... and the Concept of Breathing, and the band has shot other videos for songs on the album. They have announced that there will be five brand new videos on their upcoming DVD "Let Go of the Wires" as well as live performance footage from a show at the Glasshouse in Pomona, CA. The DVD was released exclusively at Hot Topicon December 9, 2008.

On December 19, 2008, it was announced that A Skylit Drive would be a part of the Vans Warped Tour 2009 lineup. A day before Warped Tour 2009 began, the band appeared at a Hot Topic store in Montclair,CA.

Adelphia (2009–early 2010)

In their DVD, "Let Go of the Wires", the band discussed plans for their next album. The album was to be titled "Glaciers". The band later announced that this would not be the title of their new album. On May 26, 2009, A Skylit Drive released a new song, entitled "Those Cannons Could Sink a Ship" onto iTunes and also for play on their MySpace page. The song is the first of their new album to be released on iTunes. Their second full-length album, Adelphia, was released on June 9, 2009 and peaked at number 64 on the Billboard 200. The band released a music video for "Those Cannons Could Sink A Ship!" on October 19, 2009, directed by Spence Nicholson.

On January 8, 2009, the band announced, via a MySpace bulletin, that they were now a part of Fearless Records and to expect a new album release sometime in 2009. They also announced tour dates with Dance Gavin Dance. A Skylit Drive was a part of Warped Tour for the 2009 season. the band also did a signing at hot topic in Montclair,CA the day before the first day of Warped Tour 2009. During the tour they did signings for the non-profit organization Music Saves Lives. A Skylit Drive recently announced a new tour with Senses Fail starting on September 30. After their American tour, the band did their first tour of Europe.

On December 6, 2009, the band recorded a cover of Journey's "Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)" for the next Punk Goes compilation.

During February-March 2010, the band toured with We Came As Romans, Of Mice & Men, The Word Alive, and headliners Alesana, nationwide. During a New York City set on February 16, Dee Snider (vocalist of Twisted Sister) appeared to see the show, and hang out with the band(s). On his Twitter, Jag was quoted saying, "I'm never going to get over hearing Dee Snyder compliment my voice. Dee, "can you really pull it off every night?". Me, "You'll see" :) "

This tour, titled The Emptiness Tour, will continue Spring 2010 in the U.K. and Europe. While Of Mice & Men, We Came As Romans, and The Word Alive won't be appearing out of the U.S. shows, ASD (as well as Alesana) will be sharing the tour with Emarosa and Bury Tomorrow.

3rd Studio Album (2010–present)

On his Formspring account, Jagmin predicted that A Skylit Drive would begin writing and recording a follow-up to Adelphia during Summer 2010. He also suggested that the album would see an early 2011 release.

In February 2010 Hassle Records published on their web site "We have new recruits to the Hassle Records family, please welcome A Skylit Drive with open arms... Fresh out of California, A Skylit Drive have been together in their current line-up since 2007 and have been touring their unique brand of screamo across the US. We released their second album 'Adelphia' in October and the UK joined the ever growing A Skylit Drive bandwagon. Catch the band on the rapidly selling out UK / Europe tour with Alesana in April."

The band announced via MySpace that on May 29, 2010, the band Desires of Sires will debut on their Adelphia tour. Recently, Michael Jagmin hinted on Twitter that A Skylit Drive is currently writing new material. A Skylit Drive is recording new demos. The band's Myspace layout changed in July 2010 with a new message saying that A Skylit Drive was in the studio recording a new album with Cameron Webb for early 2011.

Placebo are a British alternative rock band formed in London in 1994, currently consisting of Brian Molko, Stefan Olsdal and Steve Forrest. To date, they have released six studio albums, six EPs and twenty-nine singles. The band have gained a considerable amount of international recognition, selling over one million albums in the UK and over ten million worldwide.

Placebo are best known for hit songs such as "Nancy Boy", "Pure Morning", "Every You Every Me", "Infra-Red", a cover of Kate Bush's "Running Up That Hill", and "For What It's Worth". Their style has varied greatly. The band's first album featured a raw sound and a fairly minimalistic instrumental lineup, but proceeding albums have had a slower, more melancholic tone, and they started experimenting with synthesizers and other, less traditional, forms of sound production (particularly after Black Market Music).

The band have gained some measure of notoriety for the sexualities of its members (Olsdal is gay, Forrest is straight and Molko is bisexual) as well as for their excessive lifestyles and Molko's androgynous image, which are often referred to in their songs.

Formation (1994-1996)

Placebo were formed by singer/guitarist Brian Molko and bassist Stefan Olsdal. Earlier, both had attended the American International School of Luxembourg, but didn't cross paths properly until 1994 in London, England. At the time, Olsdal was taking guitar lessons and was on his way home, when he met Molko at the South Kensington tube station. Molko, observing that Olsdal had a guitar strapped to his back, invited Olsdal to watch him perform at a local bar. On the strength of Molko's performance, Olsdal decided that they should start a band. The two formed Ashtray Heart, a lo-fi duo, playing mostly on toy instruments. They wrote four songs, but decided to try out as a serious band and started to scout for a drummer.

Originally, the two were unable to decide on a drummer. Molko had some experience playing with Steve Hewitt, making him the ideal choice. However, Hewitt had prior commitments to the London band Breed, and only had time to play on occasional demos with Molko and Olsdal. This led Robert Schultzberg to assume the position of drummer when the band signed its contract with Caroline Records. Schultzberg had known Olsdal from boarding school in Sigtuna, Sweden as well as from an earlier Swedish band (Elevating Addiction) which they had both been members of.

As to the name "Placebo", Olsdal remarked in an MTV interview that it was chosen because of its Latin origins; “placebo” literally translates from Latin as “I will please". Frequently in interviews, Molko has stated that the name is a satirical reflection of the 1990s cliche of naming one's band after a drug, though Olsdal claims this was not the original motivation for naming the band "Placebo". When asked about naming a band, Molko said:

It’s a complex question to answer, really. As musicians you try to find a name for your band that represents you and you never really do, because, basically, names for bands lose their meaning after a while. They become a series of sounds that you associate with people in music. The most important thing for a name is that you can imagine forty-thousand people screaming it in unison.

Debut album, lineup change and glam connection (1996-1998)

Placebo's self titled debut album was released 16 July 1996 and was a major success, peaking at five on the UK Albums Charts at the height of the Britpop era. Placebo featured ten tracks (eleven including the hidden bonus track "Hong Kong Farewell"), their most popular being Nancy Boy. In 1998, Q Magazine readers voted the Placebo album the 87th greatest of all time. The band remastered and reissued the album on 18 September 2006 for its tenth anniversary.

Tension with Schultzberg began to rise. The band initially let him go in September 1995, but he was rehired to record the first seven inch single "Bruise Pristine". After an argument in August 1996, right before doing their first TV show, Molko decided that it would be best for the band if Schultzberg left. But Schultzberg suggested playing together until they finished the promotion of their first album, Placebo, and the band accepted.

Eventually, Schultzberg did indeed leave the band in September 1996, on a United States tour. Before going on stage for their first show in New York state, Olsdal informed Schultzberg that he wasn't going on the tour in Germany that was following the US one. At the manager’s request, Schultzberg did two more shows with the band in Paris after the US tour, the last of which was a performance on “Nulle Part Aillleurs”. Molko has said that he was "tired of being the focus of Robert’s rages against the world." While Schultzberg was with the band, several early works were recorded including their first 7" single "Bruise Pristine", the "Come Home" EP, the single version of "Nancy Boy" with B-sides "Slackerbitch", "Miss Moneypenny", "Bigmouth Strikes Again" and their eponymous debut album. On the track "I Know", Schultzberg played didgeridoo as well as drums. His departure left many fans disappointed, because the band switched to a softer sound in the proceeding albums. In the same year, however, they were able to convince Hewitt to return to Placebo as their full-time drummer. Molko remembers: “Even at the beginning, Robert and I couldn’t be in the same room with each other without wanting to be violent."

In early 1996, Placebo opened several concerts for David Bowie in Italy, France, and Switzerland as part of his Outside Tour after he had only heard one of their demos. Bowie also invited the trio to play at his 50th birthday at New York's Madison Square Garden in 1997. The party also included luminaries such as Billy Corgan of Smashing Pumpkins, Robert Smithof the The Cure, and Lou Reed.

The band's glam connections continued. In 1998, Placebo recorded a cover of T.Rex's "20th Century Boy" for the Velvet Goldmine soundtrack. The band also had minor roles in the film. Bowie made a special appearance on-stage with Placebo during a tour stop in New York. A version of the song "Without You I'm Nothing", which originally appeared on the album with the same name, featured a duet containing both Molko and Bowie. Placebo played "20th Century Boy" live with David Bowie at the BRIT Awards show in 1999.

Without You I'm Nothing and Black Market Music (1998-2003)

In 1998, Placebo switched to the major label Virgin Records, and issued their album Without You I'm Nothing in November. It was another large seller in England and initially appeared to be the group's breakthrough in the US market, where MTV embraced the album's lead single "Pure Morning", but subsequent singles and videos failed to match the success of its predecessor.

The first two singles from Without You I'm Nothing, "You Don't Care About Us" and "Pure Morning", were the peak of their British success, both charting in the top ten. Since Without You I'm Nothing, the band have received less positive coverage from the British music press who, on occasion, have mocked the perceived pretension of front-man Molko. However, the band has retained a huge popular and critical following in continental Europe. By way of their English-accented fluent French front-man, France has become their first target market in Europe, which has led to them gaining a huge popularity there, even in excess of their British fan base.

The band's third release, Black Market Music, added hip-hop and disco elements to their tense rock sound. The UK saw a release date of October 2000; US fans were treated to a re-sequenced version that autumn. The US version featured a slightly different track listing, adding the aforementioned Bowie version of "Without You I'm Nothing" and the band's cover of Depeche Mode's "I Feel You". The recording spawned additional UK hits such as "Taste in Men" and "Slave to the Wage".

Placebo encountered resistance from the British music industry upon release of the single "Special K" due to its reference of a ketamine high as a simile for love. The song was released in Australia as a single before eventually being made available in the UK as an EP featuring the B-sides and remixes that would have filled out a conventional two-disc single release. At the time the band claimed this was due to dissatisfaction with the two-disc single format, a claim somewhat undermined by their subsequent single releases all being made available in two-CD formats accompanied by a 7" vinyl.

Their style altered little from Placebo to Black Market Music, based around fairly straightforward guitar playing, often influenced by the style of 1970s British and American rock, and Molko's high-pitched vocals. The first single for the album, "Taste in Men", was one of their most popular, with a trance synthesiser in the background and wailing distorted guitars.Black Market Music did not receive the same level of long term recognition and media hype as Without You I'm Nothing did, but its peak sales outperformed those of its predecessor, in both the UK and France.

Sleeping With Ghosts and Once More With Feeling (2003-2006)

In spring 2003, Placebo showcased a harder edge with the release of their fourth album, Sleeping with Ghosts. The album went to number 11 in the UK and sold 1.4 million copies worldwide. Australian tour dates with Elbow and UK shows with Har Mar Superstar followed in 2004. Sleeping with Ghosts was more adventurous than Black Market Music, because it experimented with dance tunes, electronic music and a less rocky—more polished—guitar sound, though it kept the traditional sound for several songs, including the first single "The Bitter End".

In autumn of 2004, Placebo's singles collection, Once More with Feeling: Singles 1996-2004 was released (on both CD and as a DVD featuring the band's videos). The nineteen song compilation included their biggest UK hits and the new track "Twenty Years".

That same year, they played a one-night-only gig at Wembley Arena. In which, Robert Smith of The Cure made a guest appearance on two tracks, "Without You I'm Nothing" and a cover of the Cure's "Boys Don't Cry". This performance was to be their last UK gig until 2006. After the Wembley gig, Placebo went on a short Once More With Feeling tour in South America. On 2 July 2005, the group performed "Twenty Years" and "The Bitter End" at the Live 8 concert, at the Palais de Versailles in France (see Live 8 concert, Paris). Their 2006 tour of the UK sold out in one weekend.

There was a bit of controversy while the band was on their promotional South American Tour. As revealed on the Once More With Feeling DVD Extras, whilst on tour in South America, Placebo and Limp Bizkit played on the same evening. Trouble occurred when Placebo's manager would not let Fred Durst on stage as he did not recognise him and thought he was simply a fan trying to get an autograph. After eventually getting on stage, Durst began the chant "Placebo sucks". Later, Placebo's roadie Adam Okrasinski was charged with aggravated battery when he allegedly punched a member of Durst's entourage in an altercation that took place after the show between members of both band's camps. Charges were later dropped in lieu of community service.

Meds and lineup change (2006-2009)

In September 2005, the band finished the recording phase of Meds which was released 13 March (delayed in the US until 4 April). The first single on the new album to be released in the UK was "Because I Want You". "Song To Say Goodbye" was the first international single (released simultaneously with "Because I Want You"). The album was remastered from October to January. Two songs, recorded on the album, feature duets with American singers: "Meds" with Alison Mosshart of The Kills and "Broken Promise" with Michael Stipe of R.E.M.. Frenchman Dimitri Tikovoi (Goldfrapp, the Cranes) who mixed select songs on Once More with Feeling, produced Placebo's fifth effort. The band has stated that the album is an attempt to capture the feel of a first album, though the album has not forgotten many of the techniques used in their previous ones.

Meds was leaked over the Internet on 17 January 2006. The official release date of Meds was 13 March 2006, making the leak almost two months early. It was projected by the band's record label to potentially cause a very dangerous loss of profit upon the album's release. Nevertheless in most countries the album debuted relatively well, at #4 in Australia and #7 in the UK. The second single from Meds was "Infra-Red". It was released on 19 June 2006 in the UK.

In 2006, Placebo switched labels in the US to Astralwerks and re-released several revisions of their earlier works. In October their debut album Placebo was digitally remastered and re-released with the title "10th Anniversary Collectors Edition"; the box set also includes a DVD containing music videos, concerts and TV performances. Three additional songs: "UNEEDMEMORETHANINEEDU", "Lazarus", and "Running Up That Hill" were added to the US Version of Meds (and the song "In The Cold Light of Morning" was taken off of the album).

Placebo joined Linkin Park and various other acts for 2007's Projekt: Revolution tour. The tour is an annual event and, in 2007, Linkin Park decided to make the tour green by donating $1 of every ticket to American Forests through their charity Music for Relief.

In 2007, after the tour "Projekt: Revolution" had been scheduled, Virgin released the Extended Play '07 EP as a simple introduction for new fans to the band's past decade of music. The compilation features eight songs, namely: "Nancy Boy", "Every You Every Me", "Taste In Men", "The Bitter End", "Meds", "Pure Morning", "Infra-Red" and the cover "Running Up That Hill".

On 1 October 2007, Steven Hewitt left Placebo. Brian Molko commented "Being in a band is very much like being in a marriage, and in couples—in this case a triple—people can grow apart over the years. To say that you don't love your partner anymore is inaccurate, considering all that you've been through and achieved together. There simply comes a point when you realise that you want different things from your relationship and that you can no longer live under the same roof, so to speak." In mid-2008, the band acquired new drummer Steve Forrest.

Molko gave two performances in 2008. The first was in late October, when he performed on the Serge Gainsbourg tribute show that was recorded and posted on the Internet; this was the only video of any Placebo member since Projekt Revolution ended in 2007. The second was with the rest of the band, when they gave one live performance in 2008, as part of an MTV Europe Foundation event, a campaign against human trafficking held in Angkor Wat in December 2008.

Placebo left EMI in 2008, but the label plans to release the complete Placebo recordings including all the studio albums, DVDs and B-Sides. Released on 8 June 2009 it holds ten discs.

Battle for the Sun (2009-present)

In January 2009, Placebo confirmed that they had finished working on the follow-up to 2006's Meds and planned to release it in June 2009. The full track list was announced on the band's website in March 2009. The album, Battle for the Sun, is the first to feature new drummer Steve Forrest. It was released on 8 June 2009, through the PIAS Entertainment Group. The album was recorded in Toronto, Canada, with producer David Bottrill.

The album's title track "Battle for the Sun" debuted on Zane Lowe's BBC Radio 1 show on 17 March 2009. Subsequently, it became available for free download on the band's official website. On the same day, they played a secret concert in London, performing some of the material from the album, including the tracks ‘Ashtray Heart’, ‘Julien’, ‘Kitty Litter’, ‘Speak in Tongues’ and ‘Devil in the Details’. In their review for the gig, Rock Sound wrote that the new album is a heavier-sounding record compared to its predecessorMeds, and recalls the atmosphere of ‘Without You I’m Nothing’. There are also string arrangements present on the new tracks.

The first single, "For What It's Worth", made its radio debut on 20 April 2009. It became available for download on iTunes and emusic from 12:00am GMT on 21 April 2009, and the video for the single premiered on Myspace at the same time. It was physically released on 1 June 2009.

In May 2009, Placebo went on to perform three concerts in the United Kingdom, at relatively intimate venues in Sheffield, Bournemouth and London, before departing to the 2009 summer festival season in Europe and Asia. Unveiling the new album with a full track-by-track rundown, Molko told the Scottish News of the World's A-Listed magazine: "It feels like a new beginning...we're reinvigorated, refreshed and ready to take on the world."

On 13 May 2009, the band's official website, "Placeboworld", was launched in a revamped version with more interactive features and an online shop. From 29 to 31 May 2009, Placebo streamed the new album on their official website. Fans signed up for the official mailing list received a unique code for logging in to 5 listenings of the album in its entirety.

In July 2009, Placebo - "Every You Every Me" was voted #83 in Triple J Hottest 100 of all time, voted by the Australian public.

On 5 November 2009, Placebo won the MTV Europe Music Awards for Best Alternative.

In December 2009, Placebo released iTunes Live: London Festival '09, a live album recorded at the iTunes Festival at The Roundhouse, Camden, on 14 July 2009. The album contains 19 live songs and a digital booklet. It is only currently available through the iTunes Store.

Following the summer festival season (and a cancellation of the American tour), Placebo went on a series of arena-sized concerts across Europe, in October-December 2009. That leg of the tour culminated in a concert in London's O2 Arena which was Placebo's largest gig ever in the United Kingdom. In February-April 2010, they toured Southeast Asia, Australia and South America.

The current leg of the tour has seen Placebo play Israel and Lebanon. It is yet unclear whether this is the last leg of the tour or, alternatively, whether it will extend into 2011.

In early 2010, World Wrestling Entertainment used "Running Up That Hill" in their promotional videos to hype it's main event for WrestleMania XXVI, a hugely anticipated re-match between WWE's two longest-tenured stars, Shawn Michaels and The Undertaker. The music video, with clips of each wrestler set to Placebo's cover of the song, is considered by wrestling fans to be one of the greatest music videos ever produced to hype a match.
